Sen. Hillary Clinton’s recent healthcare plan is a flawed strategy that “fails to meet the basic requirements of pragmatic reform” says the Libertarian Party after Clinton announced her second attempt at universal healthcare policy. “Clinton’s healthcare plan is the wrong approach to healthcare reform both on a logistical and moral level,” says Executive Director of the Libertarian Party, Shane Cory. “Clinton’s plan is simply a new prescription for ‘Hillary Care’ that she prescribed more than a decade ago. It wasn’t good then, and it isn’t good now.”

“…Sen. Clinton has learned little since the American people overwhelmingly rejected her last attempt to overhaul the U.S. health care system. Once again her plan, which would cost $110 billion per year in new taxes, calls for greater government control over American health care. If her plan were to pass this time, it would mean higher taxes, lost jobs, less patient choice, and poorer quality health care.

Congressman Ron Paul became the first presidential candidate to sign the death tax repeal pledge today at an event preceding tonight’s New Hampshire presidential debate. The pledge, offered by the American Family Business Institute, has been offered to all presidential hopefuls and makes clear a candidates commitment to repealing the death tax in the their first term. The federal death tax is scheduled to expire in 2010 but returns to 55 percent in 2011. If kept in place, children and grandchildren of farmers and small family businesses will be hit with seven figure bill from the IRS when their loved ones pass away.
“After a lifetime of work, paying income tax, property tax and sales tax, it is preposterous to think that the IRS should then be able to take more than half of our money when we die,” said Dr. Paul after signing the repeal pledge. “Even worse, it slaps families with a tax just as their parents have died. I find that incredibly offensive.”
“A critical part of the American dream is that we can pass on part of our legacy to our kids and grandkids. The death tax stomps out that right and destroys family farms and businesses,” continued Dr. Paul. “If elected president, I will work tirelessly to insure we kill the death tax.”

“These last few weeks the House has been in a rush to pass spending bills before August recess. In fact, visitors walking the hallways of Congress become immediately struck by the apparent spending battle between the “conservative Democrats” of the so-called “Blue Dog Coalition,” and the Republican Study Committee, or RSC, generally representing the more conservative bloc of Republican House members. Members of each of these groups place large posters on easels outside their offices. The purpose behind this seems clear, to point the finger at the opposite party for the current budget mess that continues to threaten America’s future.
When Republicans had control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress, very little was done to stem the tide of federal spending. In fact, spending increased every year over the past decade. New programs such as “No Child Left Behind,” and entitlements like the Prescription Drug Benefit, were added at great cost to federal taxpayers.
During this period, the Blue Dogs continued to make the rhetorical point of government financial misdeeds. Now that Democrats control the House, the RSC is highlighting the increases in spending and debt that will occur based on bills passed this year by the new majority.
While both sides continue attempting to score political points, the country goes further and further into debt, because neither side is really willing to make the tough decisions necessary to halt the run away train of federal spending.

We congratulate Ron Paul on his victory, and hope the Straw Poll raises awareness of limited government issues in the ’08 race. One of the more interesting untold stories of the current primary is how well organized and enthusiastic Ron Paul and Fred Thompson supporters are online.”

“IRS employees ignored security rules and turned over sensitive computer information to a caller posing as a technical support person, according to a government study.”
“Sixty-one of the 102 people who got the test calls, including managers and a contractor, complied with a request that the employee provide his or her user name and temporarily change his or her password to one the caller suggested, according to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, an office that does oversight of Internal Revenue Service.”
“The caller asked for assistance to correct a computer problem.”
“The report said that by failing to question the identity of the caller the employees were putting the IRS at risk of providing unauthorized people access to taxpayer data that could be used for identity theft and other fraudulent schemes.”

“Ron Paul has over the past few months emerged as the dark horse US Presidential candidate. With a small but growing cadre of devoted supporters, Paul is gaining political traction by campaigning on ideas about financial reform which would dramatically affect the global currency and forex markets.”
“A staunch supporter of lower taxes, a dramatically smaller government, and long-term conservative monetary policy, a Ron Paul presidency could mean big changes for the US Dollar and its relationship to other currencies.”

“Health care is in the spotlight again, with the premiere of Michael Moore’s movie Sicko and the state of Massachusetts switching over to a mandatory universal single-payer program. But also sharing center stage are the same controversies that have bedeviled government’s involvement in anything that demands excellence.”
“The basic question is whether we want a political system to manage doctors, hospitals, and patients. What is the history of government’s accomplishments? Are politicians and bureaucrats known to be pillars of efficiency, impartiality, and competence? Or will government’s escalating foray into medicine turn into a Laurel and Hardy comedy with the catchphrase: “Well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten us into.” “

“Americans are justifiably concerned over the government’s escalating intervention into their freedom to choose what they eat and how they take care of their health. ”
“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in order to comply with standards dictated by supra-national organizations such as the UN‘s World Food Code (CODEX), NAFTA, and CAFTA, has been assuming greater control over nutrients, vitamins and natural health care providers to restrict your right to choose the manner in which you manage your health and nutritional needs.”
