Bridge to Nowhere - She Was For It Before She Was Against It

At the press conference where Sen. John McCain announced Gov. Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice-President, Gov. Palin stressed her opposition to the “Bridge to Nowhere.” She said that if Alaska needs a bridge, they will build it themselves without federal help.

Her record on the issue is different. The Anchorage Daily News reports the “Alaska governor campaigned in 2006 on a build-the-bridge platform, telling Ketchikan residents she felt their pain when politicians called them “nowhere.” They’re still feeling pain today in Ketchikan, over Palin’s subsequent decision to use the bridge funds for other projects — and over the timing of her announcement, which they say came in a pre-dawn press release that seemed aimed at national news deadlines.”

After she was elected, Gov. Palin did end up cancelling the Bridge to Ketchikan, but kept the federal money for use with other projects. Full story @ http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/511471.html
