“Presidential contenders have been busy portraying their political differences from others inside and outside of their parties, but when it comes to fiscal policy, ideological labels don’t necessarily apply. That’s just one finding of a comprehensive study from the National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF), which provides cost estimates — based on hard data — for more than 450 of the major candidates’ proposals that would affect the federal budget.”
NTUF looked at proposals by 8 candidates for President, and found:

After Monday’s State of the Union address delivered by President George W. Bush, the Libertarian Party is renewing its call for a safe and timely troop withdrawal from Iraq. “President Bush’s State of the Union address once again emphasized his desire to remain in Iraq without any finite objective or operational goal,” says William Redpath, chairman of the Libertarian Party.
“While we are pleased to see a decline in violence in Iraq, this should by no means become a mandate for sustaining our presence in the country,” says Redpath. “We were wrong for invading Iraq, and we as a country have paid for that mistake in dollars and blood. Our obligation is not to Iraq, or any other nation in the world. Our obligation is to our soldiers: to keep them as safe as possible and to use them only in the direct defense of our nation. Each day we remain in Iraq is a rebuke of the promise we have made to the members of our Armed Forces.”

Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s campaign has been endorsed by legendary folk singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie.
Guthrie, known for a series of hits including “Alice’s Restaurant,” issued the following endorsement of Dr. Paul:
“I love this guy. Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know of who would have signed the Constitution of The United States had he been there. I’m with him, because he seems to be the only candidate who actually believes it has as much relevance today as it did a couple of hundred years ago. I look forward to the day when we can work out the differences we have with the same revolutionary vision and enthusiasm that is our American legacy.”

“Tonight’s State of the Union address went much as expected. Instead of calling for a more limited role of the federal government in American society, the President laid out plans that would only increase the government’s intervention into the realm of economics, health care, education and foreign policy. It is unfortunate to see that after seven years of increasing the size of government and increasing the government’s presence in the day to day lives of all Americans, the President refuses to limit the scope of the federal government, a once championed virtue of the President’s party. The President’s last State of the Union address encapsulated his legacy of an abandonment of the principles of limited government and individual freedom.”
“While the Libertarian Party applauds the President on taking a stand against wasteful government spending–though his administration has been a large contributor to this problem–and opening up more foreign markets to trade, we offer the following solutions to issues the President brought up in his address:
“I am endorsing Ron Paul for the Republican nomination for President because of his commitment to less government, greater liberty, and lasting prosperity for America. We are at a point in this country where we need to reduce our dependency on government and regain control of our future. To this end, Ron Paul will bring back troops, end the War in Iraq, and will strengthen the U.S. dollar and the economy. For these reasons and more, Ron Paul has my support, respect, and vote.”
Gary Johnson was governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003. As governor, he was a forceful advocate for limited government, gaining the nickname “Veto Johnson” for his record of vetoing hundreds of bills.
“With the state Primary still about one month away, Wisconsin’s most famous Libertarian hopes his man will carry the Badger State.”"
“Ron Paul, a known Libertarian running on the Republican ticket, is turning some heads. As of Tuesday, he’d received the third-most votes of any Republican candidates, reminding some of Tomah’s Ed Thompson. Thompson received 11-percent of the vote during the 2002 Gubernatorial Election-remarkable for a third party candidate. Thompson says he’s excited about Paul’s campaign, and what the candidate has been able to achieve so far.”
“Paul has some revolutionary ideas to be sure: he wants to bring troops home, not only from Iraq, but from all off-shore bases around the world, he wants to eliminate the Federal Income Tax and the Federal Reserve. His theory is, the Fed simply prints off more money when they run out, that causes the value of the dollar to decrease, which Thompson says is a tax on the public.”
“Thompson, who is running for Mayor in Tomah, was rumored to be mulling a presidential bid at one time, but now is content to lobby for Paul. He says many people have gotten behind Paul after talking with him.”
“Thompson says there isn’t much difference between the two major party candidates anymore and famously refers to them as “Republicrats”. ”
