Libertarians for Ron Paul » 2007 » December
The New York Times has just issued a retraction to their piece a few days ago attemting to link Ron Paul to white supremacists. They admit that the piece “should not have been published.”
I hope their retraction gets as much attention as their original post did.
In four parts:
On the McLaughland Group’s annual awards show:
John McLaughlin awarded Ron Paul “Person of the Year.” “The physician-politician,” McLaughland said, “he injected the Presidential campaign with a dose of truth serum. Paul’s straight talk on Iraq, and his straight talk on the Constitution, as Buchanan pointed out, and the limits of government have made him an Internet phemonema. In fact, Paul has become an independent force in the nation’s life.”
Clarence Page awarded Ron Paul “Most Charasmatic.”
Eleanor Clift awarded Ron Paul “Capitalist of the Year” for his Internet fundraising.
Pat Buchanan awarded Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) “Most Original Thinker” for his resolution to prohibit war on Iran without Congressional approval. Buchanan mentioned that it was co-sponsored by Ron Paul.
The show was taped today and is broadcast different times this weekend in different areas. Check local listings.
“Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has taken to calling himself a “fiscal conservative,” but who ever heard of a fiscal conservative who raised taxes and spending through the roof while governor of Arkansas? Mike Huckabee is also calling himself “a different kind of Republican,” but that’s just a codeword for a big-government Republican who wants to cover up his tax-and-spend record with folksy talking points and one-liners. Sorry Tax Hike Mike. No dice.”

After Vladimir Putin, Time magazine named 30 “People Who Mattered” in their “Person of the Year” issue.
Booed by Republicans for his isolationist foreign policy views and anathema to Democrats for his anti-government philosophy, the Texas congressman was proudly out of step with both political parties. But marching to his own drummer, the grandfatherly libertarian found himself leading an online parade. Millions of dollars poured into his quixotic presidential campaign, raising an inevitable question: What’s next for this free-thinking and strangely compelling grassroots crusader?
The Ron Paul campaign has generated new interest in freedom and new energy in promoting the antiwar libertarian viewpoint as a political force. Ron Paul has a record of defending freedom in hostile territory - the Congress of the United States. He has done more than talk about freedom - he votes “No” when the statists move to take more of your freedom. Congressman Paul has introduced bills to repeal laws, restore freedom, and to bring the troops home.
But one antiwar libertarian in Congress is not enough to stop the warfare-welfare state. We need more libertarians and limited government conservatives in Congress. Austin Libertarian activist Rock Howard has identified officeholders and candidates - Libertarians, Republicans and others - who are campaigning for more freedom and less goverment. He has put up a “Liberty Congress” website to publicize these campaigns - take a look @ http://libertycongress.org/ and find a campaign to help.
“The government is promising $45 trillion more than it can deliver on Social Security, Medicare and other benefit programs.”
“That is the gap between the promises the government has made in benefits and the projected revenue stream for these programs over the next 75 years, the Bush administration estimated Monday.”
“The $45.1 trillion shortfall has increased by nearly $1 trillion in just one year, according to the administration’s “Financial Report of the United States Government” for 2006. And, it’s up 67.8 percent in just the past four years. In 2003, the shortfall between promised benefits and revenue sources over a 75-year period was put at $26.9 trillion.”

“Ten-term Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) is the kind of politician that Hispanics in America desperately need to represent our true interests. Sure, it would be great to see diversity in the Oval Office with a black man like Barack Obama or a woman like Hillary Clinton, but as we Hispanics have learned from years of discrimination and hardship, it is not what makes us different that matters but our united desire for community, values and freedom. Ron Paul is the man who will best represent the interests of Hispanics, in preserving our individual liberties and ensuring peace and prosperity for our children and our children’s children.”
HISPANICS IN AMERICA
“Although there is only one Hispanic presidential candidate today, Ron Paul is the best option for Hispanics. In my opinion, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson would make a better president than the other candidates from the Democratic Party. But we have to ask ourselves who is the best candidate from either party. In a time of war, inflation, rising taxes, out-of-control deficit-spending and domestic spying, Hispanics need a man who has the experience, the integrity and the determination to stand up to the Washington machine. That man is Ron Paul.”
