Associated Press reports :”John McCain’s campaign is losing two veteran Republican strategists in Iowa and will report a seven-figure debt for the second quarter in a row, back-to-back blows to a presidential bid still reeling from a major staff shake-up earlier this week.
Ed Failor Jr., said Thursday that he and Karen Slifka plan to notify McCain by letter of their decisions to leave. Both are GOP operatives with deep ties in Iowa, which holds the first-in-the-nation caucuses, and national politics.
“As much as I like Senator McCain, it’s not a team I’m willing to stay involved with any longer,” Failor said.”
The campaign also will show about $1 million in debts when it reports its second-quarter finances this weekend, according to a Republican familiar with the campaign’s fundraising.
The report also notes “In more bad news for McCain, a co-chair of his Florida campaign — state Rep. Bob Allen — was arrested Wednesday after offering to perform oral sex for $20 on an undercover male police officer, authorities said. Allen, 48, was seen coming in and out of a restroom three times at a park in Titusville, Fla., said police Lt. Todd Hutchinson. He then approached an undercover officer and was arrested.”

Politics1.com reports today “Media reports Wednesday grew worse yet again for US Senator John McCain (R). His national finance director, deputy campaign manager, political director, and as many as ten more senior staffers resigned from his Presidential campaign….Various news reports indicate McCain’s Michigan campaign office telephone number is already disconnected, his Michigan director quit, and his Iowa campaign director plans to resign by the end of this week.” http://www.politics1.com/blog-0707.htm#0711
“Recently, the General Accounting Office studied nineteen instances where the president issued so-called “signing statements.” In such statements, the president essentially begins the process of interpreting legislation – up to and including declaring provisions unconstitutional, hence often refusing to enforce them. The GAO study found that in nearly 1/3 of the cases studied, the administration failed to enforce the law as enacted. This approach is especially worrisome for several reasons.
First, these signing statements tend to move authority from the legislative branch to the executive, upsetting our delicate system of checks and balances. Next, these statements grant the president power not given by the Constitution, allowing him to usurp powers of the judicial branch. Finally, the idea of agencies refusing to enforce the law as enacted sets precedent for the type of run away administrative actions our constitution was expressly enacted in order to avoid.”

“You know, when I ask people, ‘What do you think the goals of America are today?’ people don’t have any idea. We don’t know what we’re trying to achieve. And I think that in a life or in a country you’ve got to have some goals.” Senator Hillary Clinton, MSNBC, May 11, 2007
Senator Hillary Clinton’s worldview, as formulated above, is starkly at odds with that of America’s founders. The idea that the American nation had “goals”, just as individuals do, would have been wholly alien to them. For them the whole undertaking of government was to protect our “self–evident” rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This emphasis on the primacy of the individual is the essence of true American exceptionalism.
National goals are a euphemism for concentrated national political power. The “Old World” was full of nations with goals, almost all pernicious. The concept of national goals is not so much un–American as it is non–American. But Mrs. Clinton persists in promoting the concept…

From a Washington Times article:
“I watched the Republican presidential debates with neighbors, and two of the five people in the room said, ‘Who is that guy? I really like him,’ ” said Republican media consultant Tom Edmonds. “My gut tells me he’s a sleeper and will indeed have an impact on the Republican race.”
The Texas obstetrician — whose habit of opposing measures he deems unconstitutional won him the sobriquet “Dr. No” — is admired as a man of principle by many conservative leaders and has won attention from voters across the land, including Democrats.
Iowan Alex Gabis attended an event for Sen. Barack Obama, Illinois Democrat, in the Fairfield town square last week, but another presidential candidate was on his mind.
“There is a Republican I like — he’s from Texas,” Mr. Gabis volunteered. “I don’t look at the label. I listen to what he says. I think his name is Ron Paul. I like him. I’d vote for him.” Continued @ http://tinyurl.com/2gfu7k
As the casualties in Iraq continue to mount, and American support of the war continues to dissipate, the Libertarian Party of the United States demands President Bush immediately begin withdrawing from Iraq, and not ‘in a while.’ “So far this month, 28 American troops have died in Iraq while the Iraqi government failed to take action, and support from the American public reached an all-time low,” says Shane Cory, Executive Director of the Libertarian National Committee…
