Libertarians for Ron Paul » 2007 » July
Ron Paul is showing up in the latest Gallup Poll at 3 percent, at fifth place (sixth place when Gingrich is included)
Ron Paul is scheduled to be on MSNBC’s “Tucker” today. The show airs at 6-7pm Eastern Time (3-4 Pacific time). He could be on anytime in that hour but Tucker usually puts Ron at the top of the show.
CSPAN recorded some of Ron Paul’s remarks at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas - in 2 parts
The Ron Paul campaign is important “…because it serves as a reminder that it’s possible to be a fiscal conservative with bourgeois cultural instincts and yet oppose the occupation of Iraq and the effort to extend that war into Iran. That novelty, coupled with his fans’ online activity, has earned Paul a rash of TV interviews: In the last two months, he has appeared on This Week, The Daily Show, Tucker, Lou Dobbs Tonight, and The Colbert Report, among other venues, raising his profile far above the other second-tier candidates. Each appearance is an opportunity not just to ask for votes but to express his anti-statist ideas, spreading a message rarely heard in the context of a presidential campaign.

While politicos fight about what the troops want, a majority of the money that members of the military donated to Republican candidates for President went to the most antiwar candidate: Ron Paul.
Analyzing the latest finance reports, The Spin Factor broke down the donations from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and among Veterans (their figures do not include the Marines, which only slightly alters the results).

In the latest Associated Press article on the Presidential fundraising race, the first half is about the Democrats. But before talking about any other Republicans, Ron Paul gets more than the usual attention:
Among Republicans filing Sunday, Ron Paul, the Texas congressman running a long-shot campaign, reported raising nearly $2.4 million from April through June and ended the quarter with a similar amount in the bank. The total is a remarkable showing for Paul, putting him ahead of Arizona Sen. John McCain in cash on hand. Paul still barely registers in public opinion polls and raised far less than McCain or the other leading Republicans. But his libertarian views and opposition to the war in Iraq have lit a fire among nontraditional contributors, particularly on the Internet.
Paul has relied on his debate appearances and on an online network to spread his message. He also spent $120,000 on printing and mailing fundraising letters, his single biggest expense. Overall, he has raised $3 million for the year and spent $646,000.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who are leading the Republican field in money and in public opinion polls, reported their finances on Friday. McCain and most of the Democratic candidates had until midnight Sunday to file their reports.

Ron Paul’s day at Google was a great success, with 250 employees filling the room to hear him and another 100 in an overflow room to watch him on closed-circuit TV.

Ron will be appearing at a rally in Mountain View at 10am this morning, followed by a lunch fundraiser.

Buried at the bottom of a New York Times article about the Democrats lead in raising money online:
One surprising development has been the online strength of a Republican long shot, Representative Ron Paul of Texas, who has garnered fierce devotion online and been able to sustain his campaign in large part from Internet donations.
Potentially troublesome for Republicans, however, Mr. Giuliani, the current party front-runner in national polls, has done the least of all of the major candidates online, raising an anemic $1.3 million.
The Libertarian Party responded with skepticism to President Bush’s press conference on Progress in Iraq.
“We strongly deplore President Bush’s comments today at his press conference,” says Shane Cory, Executive Director of the LNC. “We have been hearing this same rhetoric since the occupation of Iraq began over four years ago, with no results to be seen. However ‘clear’ the objectives Bush has given to our troops may be, it won’t change the fact that this unnecessary war in Iraq has done more damage than good, and the goals Bush laid out today are too vague for our troops to meet.”
“We are on the path that, within a year, our nation will suffer more than 4,000 casualties in Iraq,” Cory continues. “But what do we have to show for it? We have the Iraqi government failing to meet even the most basic benchmarks necessary for them to begin taking control of their own country.
